55th Annual Montego Bay International Marlin Tournament Underway

It has a been a spectacular show of healthy competitive spirit and togetherness as the participants of the 55th Annual International Montego Bay Marlin Tournament geared up for the three-day fishing event. The Tournament, started on Tuesday, September 20 with a Captain’s Address at the Montego Bay Yacht Club (MBYC). There, marine artist, biologist and conservationist Guy Harvey engaged the captains of each team in a discussion on the proper way to ‘catch and release’ during the sport-fishing days. Additionally, the Commodore of the MBYC paid special tribute to the newly built dock by symbolically pouring rum on it. To end the day’s activities, a sponsor’s cocktail was held to lift the ‘spirits’ of team members before Day 1 of fishing began.

Today, Wednesday September 21, the first catch of the first Day of fishing was secured by Lawrence Taylor of Stew Fish II. Shortly after, Trinidadian Jeffrey Shaw of Fishy Bizniz caught for himself another beautiful Marlin to get the competition going at a steady pace.

The teams left dock at 7:00AM this morning and put out their lines. They are expected to return by 5:00PM with their catch lest their catch become null and void- per the rules and regulations of the tournament organisers.

The Montego Bay Marlin Tournament will run until Saturday September 24th- closing with a Raft Up and Beach Party at Doctor’s Cave Beach. The fishing will however end on Friday, September 23.
